6 Unique Experiences and Destinations to Inspire Your Next Adventure

Fresh from Virtuoso Travel Week: 6 Unique Experiences and Destinations to Inspire Your Next Adventure

Every couple of years, we press pause on our daily routines and set our out-of-office replies to attend one of the most influential gatherings in the travel industry: Virtuoso Travel Week. This time, Louise and I were there together, moving from dawn to well past dusk across more than 100 private meetings with luxury and adventure partners, sharing meals with our preferred suppliers, and soaking up keynote sessions that left us energized.

We heard Brene Brown speak live. It was absolutely a highlight for both of us! She’s so wise; so charming; and so Virtuoso! She started off her speech by talking about her own amazing experiences working with her own Virtuoso Travel Advisor (no, it’s not us). Hearing her appreciation for what we do, and a few of her crazy-short-notice-asks, from her perspective was really enlightening. She talked not just about all of the planning logistics her advisor takes off her plate, but the value in having a professional’s opinion to help guide decisions.

We went to the conference to cultivate genuine relationships, uncover new products, and stay ahead of emerging destinations and travel trends so we can deliver amazing travel inspiration and better service to you. We returned with notebooks full of fresh ideas (yeah, we’re not on the AI train yet!) and a deeper commitment to collaborating with our Virtuoso partners who truly do take travel experiences to another level.

We had a hard time choosing because we heard about hundreds of really interesting experiences and destinations while we were at the conference, but we’ve narrowed it down to each of our top three unique experiences that we hope will inspire your travels!

Shari's Top Three Unique Trips to Consider:

African Sound Safaris

Most people go to Africa to see the big animals: elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, leopards and cheetahs. You see so much, and it is so different from home, but what if you stopped to hear the sounds of the smaller parts that make up Africa’s ecosystem? We often think of it as an adventure, but what if that was combined with wellness? Safari, to see the animals, but a spa and wellness focus to encourage you to be fully present and to enjoy the benefits of nature for yourself as well. Imagine slipping on a headset and tuning into the delicate symphony of the smaller creatures, hearing the elephants chewing on leaves and the surrounding sounds of the land you normally don’t notice. This private sound safari offers an entirely fresh way to bond with the wilderness, listening to the intimate pulse of nature. It is contemplative, unexpected, and impossible to forget.

Whale Sharks, stingless jellyfish and cultures barely touched by tourism

For travellers seeking something far from ordinary, expedition sailings to Indonesia and West Papua weave together vibrant indigenous culture with colourful marine life and untouched beaches. Set sail into the heart of the Coral Triangle, one of the most biodiverse marine regions on Earth, where jungle-covered limestone islands rise from impossibly clear turquoise waters. This remote corner of the world rewards travellers with encounters that become memories of a lifetime: whale sharks drifting calmly beneath traditional fishing platforms, vibrant reefs teeming with clouds of colourful fish, and hidden lagoons fringed by uninhabited white-sand beaches.

On land, centuries-old traditions remain woven into daily life — stilt villages built over the sea, welcome dances are performed in full ceremonial dress, and age-old crafts are still practised as they have been for generations. Whether snorkelling among flourishing corals, cruising quiet bays by Zodiac, or simply absorbing the rhythms of island life, you’ll feel the authenticity and power of nature. If you are a lover of the ocean and unique destinations, you don’t want to miss Raja Ampat and West Papua.

Rare & Responsible Wildlife Encounters in India

Did you know that the Indian Subcontinent hosts roughly one-tenth of all wildlife on Earth, despite covering only about three percent of the planet's landmass? That’s right! While so many people talk about African Safaris, India has incredible concentrations of wildlife that you can’t find elsewhere! There is an incredible variety of terrain in India, from alpine meadows to tropical forests, arid deserts to mangrove coastlines. This is a place where you can track the elusive snow leopard across high-altitude ridges, glimpse the flame-colored red panda in misty eastern forests, and witness the raw power of the Bengal tiger in its natural habitat.

Beyond these iconic sightings, the landscape is home to wild elephants, rhinos, and gaur; packs of Indian wild dog; four distinct bear species; the Hoolock Gibbon, the only ape native to the region; over 1,200 bird species; and the King Cobra, the world's largest venomous snake. What makes these journeys so meaningful is the responsible approach behind them: conservation-minded guiding that puts the well-being of the wildlife and local communities first.

Louise's Top Three Unique Trips to Consider:

Stargazing from a Luxury Airstream on Bolivia's Salt Flats

Louise came back enchanted by the dreamlike beauty of the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia. After dark, you can lie beneath one of the most dazzling skies on the planet, spread out above the mirror-like salt crust and then imagine taking it in from the comfort of a stylish Airstream caravan!

Make it a true South American authentic adventure by moving from the world's driest desert to its largest salt flat. You’ll encounter some of the most surreal landscapes on Earth. In Chile's Atacama, wander lunar valleys, watch flamingos shimmering on high-altitude lagoons and drift silently above the awakening desert in a hot air balloon as the Andes catch fire with sunrise. Cross into Bolivia, where steaming geysers, emerald lagoons and deserts scattered with vicuñas give way to the dazzling white expanse of the Uyuni Salt Flats — a mirror of sky and cloud so vast it seems to erase the horizon. Then experience the deep blue waters of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, where sacred Inca islands and living Andean traditions still live on today. If incredible landscapes and unique wide-open spaces set your heart a twitter, we know just where to send you!
